: Doctoral candidates at the University of Chicago are required to grant ProQuest UMI Dissertation Publishing non-exclusive rights to reproduce and distribute their dissertations. If publishing elsewhere, authors must retain the right to publish through ProQuest. Authors may choose either Traditional Publishing (recommended) or Open Access Publishing. Authors may choose whether or not ProQuest will allow Google Books to index their dissertations. (Selecting No to search engines is recommended if the future publication of the dissertation is a concern.) Authors may also choose to delay the release of their dissertation in ProQuest for 6 months, 1 year or 2 years. This decision should be made in consultation with faculty (and as appropriate, research collaborators). If for any reason an author needs to restrict access to a dissertation after graduation, the author should contact the Dissertation Office.
Non-Purdue users, may purchase copies of theses and dissertations from ProQuest or talk to your librarian about borrowing a copy through Interlibrary Loan. (Some titles may also be available free of charge in our Open Access Theses and Dissertations Series, so please check there first.)Proquest Digital Dissertations Proquest provides the past two years of citations and abstracts in their Digital Dissertations database at no cost. The database via includes Dissertation Abstracts International, with more than 1.5 million entries and the Masters Abstracts International. The Dissertation Abstracts International database includes citations for theses and dissertations from 1861 to the current year. Entries for dissertations from 1980 forward include 350-word abstracts, written by the author. Citations for master's theses from 1988 forward include 150-word abstracts. UC Davis submits only doctoral dissertations for inclusion in Digital Dissertations via Proquest. Doctoral students are required to submit a PDF version of their dissertation to ProQuest. Submit your dissertation to the (KREx) and wait until it is approved before submitting to ProQuest. Masters students should submit their theses or reports to KREx, but do not submit to ProQuest.
